Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas can help you get a ride to your health care appointments as part of our servicios con valor agregado (VAS, en inglés).. CHIP, STAR and STAR Kids plan members all have access to this VAS. <CHIP doesn’t have NEMT benefits, they only have VAS– need to figure out how to say this…>
STAR and STAR Kids members have non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) as a covered benefit through Texas Medicaid. NEMT is provided by ModivcareTM. STAR and STAR Kids members must request a ride through NEMT before they request a ride as a VAS. How do I get VAS transport benefits?
All BCBSTX Medicaid and CHIP members have the option to use the transportation VAS. With this VAS, you can get a free ride to approved services that not covered by Medicaid, including:

- Dialysis, diabetic screenings or therapy
- A covered service where the parent needs to bring more than one child
We can send a wheelchair van if you need it. Just let us know what type of help you will need when you call to book a ride.
